Hanunoo Unicode Script

The Mangyan people of southern Mindoro use Hanunoo, one of the native scripts of the Philippines, to express the Hanuno'o language. It is an abugida descended from the Brahmic scripts, related to Sulat Tagalog, and is noted for being written vertically rather than downward as virtually all other scripts are. (however, it is read horizontally left to right). Characters are typically carved with a knife into bamboo to create the writing. Due to the fragile nature of bamboo, the majority of known Hanuno'o inscriptions are comparatively new. As a result, tracing the timeline of the script is challenging.
