A script in Unicode is a group of letters and other written symbols that are used to indicate textual data in one or more writing systems. Some scripts, like Armenian, only handle a single language and writing system. Other scripts can accommodate a wide range of writing systems; the Latin script, for instance, can be used to write English, French, German, Italian, Vietnamese, as well as several other languages. Some languages use a variety of alternative writing systems, which results in the use of a variety of typefaces. For instance, Turkish originally used the Arabic script before switching to the Latin script in the early 20th century.
